Infant
New Beginnings - 1 year old to 2 years old
Being the first of five distinct programs, our Infant curriculum is designed to develop and reinforce each child's individual needs. Children participate in sensory-based learning experiences, while receiving positive, nurturing guidance.
Our curriculum helps your child develop his/her cognitive, communication, emotional, fine motor, gross motor and social skills. For your child to achieve these skills, Urban Kids incorporates educational and developmental activities in the infant classroom that includes finger plays, singing songs, vocabulary enhancement through identification and repetition, washing his/her own hands and feet, participating in age-appropriate playground activities, and sharing with friends of the classroom.
For your child to successfully achieve our infant program objectives, Urban Kids ensures small class sizes, academic quality, and an encouraging classroom atmosphere. Additionally, our teachers encourage your child to work at their own speed so they feel successful in the skills they are developing. This not only builds their confidence, but allows them to explore the talents your child has.
In Urban Kids Montessori Infant Program, your child will expereince various areas of development that includes:
Fine Motor Skills – Infant’s fine motor skills, which include finger and hand movements, need to be encouraged in many different ways in order for them to progress. Our program offers a wide variety of activities for your child to develop his/her fine motor skills that ranges from finger painting, using pincer grasps to pick up finger goods, and making and manipulating clay.
Gross Motor Skills – New Beginnings focuses on all gross motor skills, including batting at objects, kicking, walking and running. Your child will be encouraged to bat at beach balls suspended from the ceiling to increase their jumping skills, as well as improve their hand/eye coordination. You might even see you child playing ‘Follow the Leader’.
Emotional Skills – Urban Kids Montessori Infant Program assists children with exploring all of their emotions, from joy to frustration. Children begin to gain the skills needed, such as patience, cooperation, and sharing to deal with all of their burgeoning emotions in a calm, supportive manner.
Social Skills – New Beginnings strives to instill pro-social skills, also known as people skills. We start with your child becoming aware of their classmates and then we move on to encourage simple sharing activities. Your child will also learn habitual manners like waving goodbye and taking turn stacking blocks. These simple activities are the essential steps for your child’s future preschool years, where children are developmentally ready to share.
Communication Skills – Our teacher’s at Urban Kids have a deep understanding of how infants communicate. As a result, they teach the children to put their wants and needs into words. Children are encouraged to sing simple songs, recite nursery rhymes, and expand their vocabulary.
Cognitive Skills – New Beginnings curriculum focuses on your child’s thinking, learning, and accumulation of knowledge. This program instigates your child’s interest in investigating their environment and, as a result, he/she will begin to sort toys by shape and color and will progressively identify facial features by reciting fun finger plays.
Urban Kids Montessori is proud to offer curriculum that involves six key areas of study. Within each one of our five programs, a distinct collection of these will be found to help your child prepare for future endeavors, whether it be an educational or athletic passion, or both.
Play, learn and grow together.
